Just got in some new Kaiju, courtesy the Super7 Distro Network. Some offerings from Realxhead, Gargamel, and more. One of my favorites is the new Tim Biskup Dragamel. For some reason this figure remains one of the most under-appreciated figures out there, and this yellow version kicks it up a notch. Check it out!

Also, a shot of the new “Blood Rage” Squirm enjoying the beautiful weather. Available now for $50.00.

This is total geekery, but I was lucky enough to have Jonathan Matthews drop off a Darkseid figure that he sculpted for DC Direct based on illustrations from the late, great Jack Kirby. Jonathan lives here in Louisville and has sculpted some amazing projects for DC. Most notably was a statue from the Batman Black and White series based on a Mike Mignola drawing, and the New Frontiers line based on illustrations by Darwyn Cooke. As of late, Jonathan has been sculpting the New Gods series for DC Direct. He really knocked this Darkseid out of the park, totally capturing the Jack Kirby style. I can’t wait to see more from this series (hint, hint..) Look for a special event at Ultra Pop! coming soon featuring figures, prototypes, and more from Jonathan’s archives.

We were able to get a few styles from the Mishka Spring line. We don’t have many sizes or styles, so get ‘em while you can. We have more new styles coming from the summer and fall collections, so keep checking. This is just a sample of what is to come.

Some new, some old. We received restocks of some great Upper Playground titles with the t-shirt order. Date Farmers, Usugrow, Morning Breath, and more.

Finally found some new titles to add to the mix, something for everyone.

Unfiltered The Complete Ralph Bakshi - Seen Fritz the Cat, Fire and Ice, The animated Lord of the Rings, or Cool World? Then you know the work of Ralph Bakshi, a pioneer of animation.
Richard Kern : Looker - Something for the voyeur in you, check out the end-pages. I can’t help the fact that I like to look at naked women.
Answer Me: The First 3 - I held off on carrying this book for long enough. Jim Goad is my hero. Hate at it’s best.
The Japanese Tattoo Design Handbook Vol. 1 - Some great tattoo designs from Japan, enough said.
Yoshitomo Nara Lullaby Supermarket - Cute doe-eyed girls and boys.
Box: The Evolution of Character Design - I am a sucker for packaging and character design, so naturally I love this book. Packaged in a zippered case. See it to believe it.

The art opening was a huge success on Friday. Thanks to everyone that came out in the rain to check it out. We sold 7 of the 10 paintings at the opening. The 3 remaining are the MechaniKong, Frankenstein, and Eiji with Godzilla. Here’s the photos of the set-up. We should have some photos of the opening festivities later this week.
Starting off with Eiji & Godzilla, Frankenstein (from Frankenstein Conquers the World or Frankensein Vs. Baragon).

Next in Line Godzilla, King Ghidorah, and Gezora.

This huge MechaniKong is one of my favorites. It is still available for $200.00. I should add that it’s almost 4 ft tall and 3 ft wide!!

I call this one “Rhapsody in Pink”.

King of the Godzilla foes, Hedorah.

Rounding out the collection with Flaming Godzilla.

Not a ton of new books this week, so I thought I would highlight a few of my favorites:

But, Wait! There’s More! - The Irresistible Appeal and Spiel of Ronco and Popeil. Remember the Pocket Fisherman, the Chop-O-Matic, or Mr. Microphone? Well, we all have to thank Ron Popeil for these gadgets and many more. I’m a sucker for books on the obscure, and this is one of my favorites. Anyone got a Pocket Fisherman for me? Available from Rizzoli for $24.95.

Muerte by Mike Giant. Published on the occasion of the exhibition “Black Ink” in Paris, France. 96 pages of the bold line work that Mike Giant is known for, available from Drago Publishing for $25.00.

Hand Job - A Catalog of Type. So you think that digital is the way to go? Luckily not everyone still thinks that way, and this book proves it. Presenting the work of 55 typographers and graphic designers, this book celebrates the popularity of hand-drawn type. Available from Chronicle Books for $35.00.
